Our story

A working pair of hands.
A new kind of legacy.

Ironwood Heritage Works is Michael Courson’s small North Carolina making venture. After roughly forty years working as an auto mechanic, he brings the same respect for fit, finish, and practical detail to the lathe.

The workshop begins with natural hardwood pens and small turned accessories. Artisan channel rings build on earlier experience with stainless steel, titanium, and ceramic ring cores.

Each idea starts with the material: the sweep of a grain line, the warmth of a finish, and the way a piece feels in your hand. Small things deserve that kind of attention.

The way we work

From a blank to something personal.

01

Start with the grain.

Natural wood has its own color, figure, and personality. We talk through the look you prefer and the materials available.

02

Shape the details.

The profile, hardware, and finish work together. Each piece is approached individually, with the intended use in mind.

03

Make it yours.

Request a gift, an everyday companion, or a special project. We confirm the details and quote before you commit.

A little
less ordinary.

Limited editions

When the wood is special,
the piece should be, too.

Distinctive grain and unusual material combinations guide future small runs. Ask what is on the bench and what might be coming next.

Keep the character

A little care.
Years of enjoyment.

Wood is a natural material. Thoughtful everyday care helps preserve its appearance. Piece-specific instructions take priority.

How should I care for a wood pen?

Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid soaking, harsh cleaners, prolonged direct sunlight, and leaving it in a hot vehicle. Ask about the specific finish before using a polish or oil.

Can I replace the ink refill?

Refill type depends on the pen hardware. We confirm compatibility for the actual piece so you can choose the right replacement.

How do custom orders work?

Send an inquiry with the type of piece, preferred look, quantity, and any date you have in mind. Materials, options, price, and timing are confirmed before an order is accepted. Submitting the form is not a purchase.

Are the pieces shown available to buy?

This website introduces the collections. The imagery and illustrations are concept previews. Finished inventory, photographs, pricing, and delivery options are confirmed directly with the maker.

What should I know about artisan rings?

Channel rings can combine a durable core with a decorative inlay. Core material, inlay choices, sizing, and care vary. Ask about available projects; do not assume a ring can be resized. Remove rings around rotating machinery and follow the care instructions for your piece.

What about shipping, returns, and guarantees?

Shipping charges, destination, lead time, and any return or repair terms are agreed before payment. No blanket guarantee or standard return window is advertised here. Please ask for the terms for your particular piece.
